Evergreens
Evergreens are a popular choice of plant for their ability to maintain foliage year round. An evergreen, simply put, is a plant or shrub that can produce blooms or foliage throughout the seasons. They do not go completely dormant in freeze conditions like a deciduous. These plants come in varying sizes, from dwarf shrubs to tall trees. This allows you to utilize many different types of evergreens around an area without have to repeat the same plant, shrub, or tree.
Evergreens are known for their vibrant and bold hues and textures. But don’t let their name fool you—they are not all green in color. In fact, evergreens’ colors can be purple, bright yellow/orange, rust, golden brown and pinks, just to name a few.
Evergreens also can be distinguished by their foliage. Some evergreen plants bloom, offering colorful bursts during certain times of the year. Other types of evergreens produce bright red berries at winter, a nice contrast to the deep green of the evergreen bush. Some evergreens have broad leaves, while others have chutes of needles or tiny dense leaves. The variation between the different evergreens, when placed together, can add a lot of dimension and texture to a landscape, in addition to dramatic color.
